1201_41143377210_8218_nHello! Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Stephanie Hogewoning. I live in Airdrie Alberta with my wonderful husband Dennis and my sweet little dog Hanna. I am an Instructor in the Aviation Programs at SAIT, located in Calgary AB. It has been an interesting journey that has brought me to this point in my life, I will not bore you with the details but rather would like to share the highlight reel with you. I graduated from SAIT in 2006 with a diploma in Avionics Technology. From there I entered into the aviation industry working as an Avionics Technician. I often get asked why aviation? It is simple really, it is in my blood! With a Grandfather, Father and Mother who all have worked in the industry the choice seemed natural. I worked my way up to being a licensed AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineer) and with that came some glorious perks. I have been afforded the opportunity to travel to many exciting places with my work. The most exciting being the Antarctic, where I spent close to 6 months on the ice working for the British Antarctic survey. A few years back a new opportunity presented itself to me to pass my passion and knowledge of aviation on to others, by working as an instructor at SAIT. I realized this idea of teaching was something I had been interested in for a long time. I can remember as a little girl playing school with my doll teaching them all the things I was learning. So again it seemed a natural progression to mesh my two passions into one. When I walked into class for the first time after successfully obtaining the position, I realized how much teaching people is very different from teaching dolls. I also realized that I had truly changed careers, I was an educator now not an AME. Through this realization it became clear to me how much I needed to learn in order to be the best educator I can possibly be. So that is why I am here taking the PIDP, for me this is the first step in what I hope to be a life time of learning. Thank you all for listening and happy blogging!!!
